Five players scored in double figures for No. 15 Baylor in an 83-50 win over San Diego in the quarterfinals of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Bears (8-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season, against Gonzaga heading into the tournament.

Their win sets up an exciting matchup with Washington State (9-1) in tomorrow’s semifinals.

Baylor shot 54.7 percent from the field to 32.7 percent for San Diego.

Freakishly athletic BU dominated USD (2-9) in all phases, particularly in the paint (a 46-24 advantage) and on the backboards (42-25).

San Diego of the West Coast Conference was outclassed and fell behind 48-19 by halftime, though they played the Bears of the Big 12 almost evenly after the break.

The Baylor front line of Anthony Jones, Perry Jones III and Quincy Acy combined for 41 points, while guards LaceDarius Dunn and Nolan Dennis added 13 and 10, respectively.

Dunn moved into second place on the Baylor all-time scoring list.

“When you play three games in four days, you have to have depth, and have other people step up and make plays,” Drew said.

Dennis, who shot 5-for-6 off the bench, was eager to play again after the Gonzaga loss.

“Just put that behind us, we just went in practice and said, you know what, we gotta get better,” Dennis said. “(Gonzaga) was a good team … but we gotta separate ourselves between good teams and great teams. We want to be a great team.

“We came out there with a lot more intensity,” he added. “That was the main thing from the bench, the starters.”

Ken Rancifer scored a team-high 10 points off the bench for San Diego.
