Honolulu water department officials have sent a repair crew to fix a damaged 8-inch water main that broke shortly after noon at the intersection of Waikalani Drive and Waihonu Street.

Water department spokesman Kurt Tsue said the main probably broke due to wear from aging.

Tsue said at this time, the department plans to make the repairs this afternoon and tonight.

A water wagon has been sent to the area to provide water to affected residents at two to three low-and-mid rise apartment buildings, he said.

Tsue said the intersection is closed to traffic.
