Furloughs and budget cuts have reduced, delayed and at times eliminated judiciary services, Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald said in a “Justice in Jeopardy” report released today.

The processing of uncontested divorces and the waiting time for children to participate in the “Kids First” program have both doubled, according to the report.

The report said in the last two years, the judiciary’s state general fund appropriation has been reduced by $19.7 million or 13 percent of its overall budget.

“Adequately funding the state court system is an investment in justice, and an investment in our democracy that should not be compromised even during tough economic times,” the chief justice said.
