Tony Ruivivar, co-founder and pillar of the original Society of Seven group and mentor to the spinoff Society of Seven LV (Latest Version), underwent surgery last week at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. The nature of the procedure has not been revealed.

While Ruivivar maintains an apartment in Hawaii Kai, he relocated to Las Vegas some years back, so, of course, wife Karen Ruivivar was in L.A. for the operation. Frannie Kirk, former SOS manager and retired entertainment director at the Outrigger, flew in to lend her aloha and support.

No word yet of his prognosis and recovery progress, so your prayers and thoughts are welcome. …

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Zac Efron was in the islands during the Thanksgiving weekend to join girlfriend and "High School Musical" co-star Vanessa Hudgens, who has been filming "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" at Kualoa Ranch and other Windward locations. The couple was spotted splashing in the waters of Sandy Beach, and online sites show them smooching while awaiting their car at the valet station of their Waikiki hotel. Hudgens had an undetected injury during filming — she fell and hit a rock — but didn’t even know she had blood on her leg till someone noticed the redness, wondering whether it was real or reel. It was real. …

‘TIS THE SEASON: Nick Kawakami, who sings and strums with brother Alex and dad Lloyd in Manoa DNA, says the group is again hosting "Boys & Their Toys," a Toys for Tots and Lokahi Giving Project plea for toys, from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Kani ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. It’s the second drive by the trio. "This year, with a little more planning, we are hoping to make it even better," said an enthusiastic Nick.

The hotel has joined the effort. "Our island community is so generous, I have no doubt we’ll have an outpouring of giving," said Luana Maitland, the Grille’s ambassador of aloha. TUBE TALK: Is Chin Ho of "Hawaii Five-0" getting a love interest? Seems so, since an upcoming episode will feature Reiko Aylesworth portraying Malia, the former fiancee of Daniel Dae Kim’s character. Chin runs into her on the CBS show at a hospital, where she works as a doctor. This might be a recurring role and would mark a reunion of a pair of "Lost" players; Aylesworth was a Dharma member in the ABC show in which Kim played Jin. …
