Man critically hurt in Moanalua Freeway crash
A man in his 40s remained at Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition this afternoon after a one-vehicle crash this morning at the Kamehameha Highway off-ramp of Moanalua Freeway Waianae-bound.
Police said a 1995 green Ford Explorer was exiting the freeway when it veered to the right and up a dirt and concrete embankment.
The SUV hit three concrete support pillars under Aiea Access Road, fell back onto the roadway, hit the guardrail on the left shoulder of road and came to rest in the far right lane.
The crash caused major damage to the driver’s side and roof of the vehicle, police traffic officials said.
A man who appears to be in his 40s was treated at the scene and taken in critical condition to a hospital at 6:09 a.m., said Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services.
HPD Traffic Division officers said the man sustained serious head injuries.
