Shoplifting, assault suspect arrested

Police arrested a 40-year-old Hawaii Kai woman Monday after she allegedly tried to steal a wallet from an Ala Moana Center store and assaulted an employee who tried to stop her.

The woman hid a wallet on her person and walked out of the store without paying for it at 11:37 a.m. yesterday, police said. The woman assaulted an employee, a 32-year-old woman, who tried to detain her and recover the stolen item.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery. She was released pending investigation.

Juveniles arrested in school break-in

Police arrested three juveniles who allegedly broke into a room at a Kalihi school and ransacked it Monday.

Police responding to an alarm call at 10:57 a.m. went to the school and found the four youths inside a room. The room had been ransacked but nothing was missing, police said.

Arrested for investigation of felony burglary were two boys, ages 10 and 8, and two girls, both 11.

3 are arrested in assault at drive-in

Three men were arrested following assaults on three people at a Kalihi drive-in restaurant around 2:25 a.m. Sunday.

A 38-year-old man was assaulted by a 22-year-old man as the first man came to the aid of a 30-year-old woman who had been called a derogatory name, police said.

A 31-year-old man coming to the aid of the man being assaulted was then himself assaulted by two other men, ages 29 and 26, police said.

The female victim then ran to her car and retrieved a weapon that she used to threaten the three suspects, police said. The weapon was not described.

The woman then ran back to her car, and the first attacker assaulted her through an open window, police said.

Police located the three men a short distance away, at Palamea and Long lanes, where they were arrested. The 29-year-old man is from Mililani. The two others have Kalihi addresses. All three were released pending investigation.

Kona man, 32, charged with drug offenses

A 36-year-old Kona man has been charged with several drug offenses and resisting arrest after tried to get away from police Friday near the old Kona airport.

Hawaii County prosecutors charged Theodore Kahuilani Casuga with criminal contempt of court, promoting a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, unauthorized possession of confidential information, seven counts of theft, six counts of forgery and six counts of identity theft. Bail was set at $124,300.

A bench warrant for contempt of court had been issued for Casuga, who also was suspected in several identity theft, theft and forgery investigations.

On Friday, Kona vice officers tried to arrest him near the old Kona airport. A struggle ensued and Casuga was taken into custody. Police recovered resealable plastic bags containing 0.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
