Waipahu man who died after being pushed over bench is identified

A 47-year-old Waipahu man who died last week of injuries from an alleged assault nearly four months earlier has been identified as Shane Kalahiki.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of Kalahiki Tuesday night and said he died of head and spinal injuries. His death was listed as a homicide by the medical examiner.

Police said a 58-year-old man was arguing with Kalahiki about 6:35 p.m. Aug. 4 in Waipahu. Fearing a fight, the man pushed Kalahiki over a bench, causing him serious injuries, police said.

Kalahiki was taken to the hospital where he died at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Police classified the case as felony assault but are awaiting the report from the medical examiner before reclassifying the case.
