You’d better watch out

Santa Claus is coming to town — Wahiawa town — on Friday evening for the Wahiawa Community and Business Association’s annual Christmas parade. The Leilehua High School Band and more than 30 other floats and units will escort the jolly old elf, starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade will proceed up California Avenue from Ka’ala Elementary School to the shopping center, where Santa will be available to visit with keiki.

Party to launch Great Aloha Run

The Kaiser Permanente Great Aloha Run will kick off its 27th year with a downtown party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Fort Street Mall.

Participants who use the occasion to register early, with a $35 donation, will receive an "In Training" T-shirt and a 2011 Great Aloha Run daily planner. The first 300 people to sign up will also receive a Kaiser Permanente backpack sports bag, water bottle and neoprene armband for an MP3 player.

Hokulani Bake Shop cupcakes will be served along with Xyience Energy Drinks and other giveaways, and participants can enter to win a trip for two to Las Vegas from Vacations Hawaii and Krater 96.

The 8.15-mile Great Aloha Run will take place Feb. 21. The event is a fundraiser for dozens of Hawaii charities. Call 528-7388 or visit www.greataloharun.com.

Class addresses holiday stresses

Learn to cope with the demands of the holidays at Kaiser Permanente’s "Holiday Stress – Fact or Fiction: 25 Ways to Reduce Holiday Stress" 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kaiser Permanente Honolulu Clinic.

The session, part of the Senior Summit lecture series, teaches participants the key distinction between holiday blues and holiday stress and provides relaxation tips. The Senior Summit program includes educational opportunities on a wide variety of topics specific to seniors, with an emphasis on prevention, personal growth and maintaining a healthful lifestyle.

Concert benefits kids with cancer

The Friends of Bella organization, Wehi Kamakawiwo’ole and the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation are holding "A Night of Hope" family-oriented concert Friday to raise funds for the fight against childhood cancer.

Organizers say the nondenominational event, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Word of Life in Honolulu, was inspired by 6-year-old Isabella Sepulveda, who is battling leukemia.

Entertainment will be by Kaulana Pakele, Ten Feet, Natural Vibrations and Maoli, and NFL Pittsburgh Steelers star Chris Fuamata-Maafala will make an appearance.

Tickets, available at the door, are $10, with all proceeds going to the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation.
