Hawaii DE Kamalu Umu cheered after intercepting a pass in the first quarter.

1. Creating Aggie-ny

» Situation: New Mexico State 0, Hawaii 0, 13:05 remaining, first quarter, New Mexico State ball, third and 14 at own 40
» The Play: LB Aaron Brown pressures QB Andrew Manley into a bad pass. DE Kamalu Umu intercepts it and returns it to the New Mexico State 19.
» Impact: Hawaii’s defense establishes itself early and yields just 214 yards and intercepts two passes for the day.
» Umu: "I was shocked. I didn’t know what to do. We had a good play. I ran into the running back. … D-linemen don’t practice catching, but I’ve got good hands."

2. Easy being Green

» Situation: Hawaii 0, New Mexico State 0, 7:01 remaining, first quarter, Hawaii ball, first and 10 at New Mexico State 11
» The Play: RB Alex Green follows a block at the line by T Laupepa Letuli and goes 11 yards for the game’s first score.
» Impact: This is Green’s first of three touchdowns in what turns out to be the most productive game ever for a Hawaii running back.
» New Mexico State coach DeWayne Walker: "The passing game was definitely something we were concerned with. But, when you have a big beast back there and you’re trying to use all your bodies to take care of the passing game, all it takes is one missed gap."

3. For the record, I

» Situation: Hawaii 24, New Mexico State 10, 2:25 remaining, second quarter, Hawaii ball, first and 10 at own 28
» The Play: QB Bryant Moniz finds SB Greg Salas downfield for a 37-yard completion.
» Impact: With the catch, Salas becomes Hawaii’s career reception-yardage leader. Salas catches 10 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown in the game. He now has 4,037 receiving yards, breaking the record of 3,919 by Jason Rivers, who was a senior when Salas was a freshman.
» Salas: "I tried to get my game like (Rivers’) was. He’d always give me tips and help me out with routes. … He was a really good teacher."

4. For the record, II

» Situation: Hawaii 45, New Mexico State 17, 2:28 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball, first and 10 at Hawaii 12
» The Play: Green goes up the middle for a 5-yard gain.
» Impact: Green’s 13th carry of the game puts him at 271 yards, breaking the Hawaii school record for rushing yards in a game of 270, set by Peter Wilson in 1950 against Brigham Young. Green finishes the day with 327 rushing yards on 19 carries.
» Moniz: "(The coaches) wanted to feed him. He deserves it. He blocks for us all year. He saves me a lot of times with his blocks. … I wanted to give him the ball, stand back and enjoy the view."

5. For the record, III

» Situation: Hawaii 58, New Mexico State 17, 5:06 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball, conversion attempt at New Mexico State 3
» The Play: K Scott Enos makes an extra point.
» Impact: Enos continues his streak of successful extra points at 92. It breaks the record of 91 set by Jason Elam.
» Enos: "Extra points have to be like a machine. I don’t think at all when I kick them. I just go up there and kick."
