Hawaii seeded 15th in NCAA volleyball tournament

The Hawaii women’s volleyball team was seeded 15th in the NCAA Tournament today and will play Portand State in Thursday’s first round in Seattle.

The Rainbow Wahine (28-2) are the lowest seed in the Seattle regional hosted by the University of Washington. The PSU Vikings are 21-8.

Should Hawaii advance to the second round, the Wahine would play the winner of the Michigan (23-9)-Washington (21-8) match. Hawaii defeated the Wolverines in last year’s regional final. 

Also seeded in Hawaii’s bracket is No. 2 Nebraska (27-2), No. 7 California (25-3) and No. 10 Minnesota (24-8). Utah State (24-8), which upset the Wahine in the Western Athletic Conference tournament final, plays Cal in the first round.

Florida (27-1) is the overall No. 1 seed and is in the regional hosted by Texas (23-5), the ninth seed. Other seeds in the Austin regional are Illinois (22-8) No. 8 and Purdue (21-10) 16th. 

Stanford (24-3) is the No. 3 seed in the regional hosted by Dayton (27-3), the 14th seed. USC (25-4) is No. 6 and Tennessee (24-6) 11th.

. In the regional hosted by Penn State, the Nittany Lions (26-5) are seeded fourth, Northern Iowa (30-2) fifth, Duke (24-6) 12th and LSU (25-4) 13th.
