Three teenage boys and a 23-year-old man were speeding in a stolen 2006 blue Scion multi-purpose vehicle early this morning in Wahiawa when the teenage driver lost control and crashed, killing himself and his front-seat passenger and sending his other passengers to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition, Honolulu traffic investigators said today.

The driver is believed to be 16 or 17 years old, police said.

He lost control of the Scion at 12:50 a.m. while trying to navigate Kaukonahua Road’s infamous "S" turn in light rain.

The accident occurred on Kaukonahua Road, three quarters of a mile northwest of Wilikina Drive, police said.

The driver, headed towards Wahiawa, failed to negotiate a left-hand bend in the road and hit a wooden utility pole, flipping the Scion onto its side, police said. The Scion then crashed into a large, metal utility pole, police side.

The driver and his 23-year-old, front-seat passenger were pinned in the wreckage and died at the scene of internal injuries, police said.

The 17- and 19-year-old passengers in the back seat were taken by paramedics to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.

The Scion was stolen but had not been reported, police said.

It was unknown if anyone was wearing seat belts or whether drugs and alcohol were factors.

But excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said.

The deaths were the 56th and 57th traffic fatalities on Oahu this year, compared to 49 last year.
