Cub Scouts from Pack 167 and Boy Scouts from Troop 32 of Waipio worked together on a Scouting for Food project Nov. 12. All collected food was given to Weed & Seed Waipahu, an anti-drug program, and the Waipahu Community Coalition for distribution to homeless people in the Waipahu area.

Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the Boy Scouts of America. It requires Youth Protection training for all BSA registered adults, and it must be taken every two years. The "Guide to Safe Scouting" prepares adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent manner. Measures such as two-deep leadership, no one-on-one contact, respect of privacy and appropriate attire are practiced to avoid and prevent child abuse. The BSA also teaches the "three R’s" — Recognize, Resist and Report — to its youth members.
For Boy Scouts in Hawaii and in the United States, 2010 marks 100 years of Scouting. Each Sunday throughout the year, the Star-Advertiser will present historic photographs and factoids to help commemorate the centennial.
