Officers investigate stabbing death

Police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man who died of blood loss and stab wounds Friday morning in Pearl City.

The man was found with multiple stab wounds to his torso at 1:31 a.m., police said.

Paramedics pronounced him dead, police said.

The death was classified as an unattended death, pending autopsy results to determine whether the stab wounds were self-inflicted, police said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy found the man bled to death from large cuts to the abdomen and stabs to the neck.

The manner of death is pending further investigation.

2 arrested in robbery of cabbie

Police arrested a man and a woman in connection with the robbery of a taxi driver in Waikiki early yesterday morning.

The cab driver, 27, was parked in a taxi stall on Kanekapolei Street when he was approached by a man who asked how much it would cost to be taken to Waimanalo. When the driver said he had another fare waiting, the man began punching the cabbie, police said.

The attacker then pulled him out of the taxi and punched him again, police said. When the driver ran away from the cab, a female stepped into the taxi and began searching it.

An officer flagged down by the cabbie detained the two suspects and a search of the two turned up the taxi driver’s cell phone.

A 30-year-old Makiki man and an 18-year-old Waimanalo woman were arrested and last night remained in the Alapai Street cellblock pending charges of robbery and unauthorized entry.

Woman reports sexual assault

Police are investigating a sex assault reported by a 21-year-old woman who said she was attacked by five men in their 20s early Friday.

The woman told police she was taken to a residence in a Honolulu neighborhood she did not recognize where she was assaulted around 4:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

No other details were immediately available.

911 call saves 3 swimmers on Big Island

HILO » Authorities say three swimmers were rescued from the waters off a Big Island beach after a hiker spotted them struggling against the surf and called for help.

Hawaii County Fire Department divers were dispatched by helicopter to Haena Beach on the island’s eastern shore around 2:30 p.m. Friday. They loaded the swimmers one at a time onto a net hanging below the helicopter.

Fire Rescue Specialist James Wilson told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald that one of the swimmers, a teen, would not have been able to tread water much longer.

Glenn Swanson of Hawaiian Paradise Park said he called 911 while out with family for a hike when he saw the swimmers get sucked out by the surf.

Man gets jail for assault

WAILUKU, MAUI » A 19-year-old Pukalani man was sentenced to six months in jail for punching a tourist in the face and stealing his shoulder bag.

The Maui News reported that Shane Keoho was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to second-degree robbery in connection with the incident in April. The judge gave him credit for time served, allowing him to report to jail tomorrow.
