Kayaker rescued off Kalaeloa
Firefighters rescued a kayaker who fell into the water and was drifting out to sea today off Kalaeloa.
A caller reported seeing the man having trouble reaching his kayak off shore of Nimitz Beach about 4:20 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Earle Kealoha.
Firefighters on a small watercraft picked up the man and brought him back to shore about 20 minutes later.
A fire helicopter and rescue boat were turned back after the rescue.
Kealoha said the man might have had slight injuries but refused treatment at the beach.
