18 groups ask Hawaii legislators to make Capitol more open
Citizen groups seeking transparency in government are sending letters to each of Hawaii’s legislators that urge them to make the Capitol more accessible.
The letters ask the Senate and House to broadcast more proceedings online, give at least three business days notice before legislative hearings and quickly post bill amendments online.
Senators also are being asked to include a list of all organizations or agencies testifying on a topic.
Eighteen organizations signed on to the letters, including AARP Hawaii, Common Cause Hawaii, Grassroot Institute of Hawaii and the Sierra Club’s Hawaii chapter.
