Brown, Moniz named WAC players of the week

University of Hawaii quarterback Moniz Bryant, Hawaii linebacker Aaron Brown and Boise State place-kicker Kyle Brotzman were named today the Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.

Moniz threw for a school-record 560 yards on 32-of-44 passing and three touchdowns in a win over San Jose State. He broke the old record of 559 set by Colt Brennen in the 2006 Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl with just over 11 minutes to play in the game. Moniz had eight passes for more than 25 yards and moved into third place on the school’s all-time passing list with 6,330 yards.

Brown had five tackles, including one for a loss, and intercepted two passes in the win over San Jose State. He returned the first interception 22 yards for a touchdown to give the Warriors a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter. The interceptions were the first in his career.

Brotzman hit all three of his field-goal attempts (20, 20 and 50) and all six extra points to finish the night with 15 points in the win over Fresno State.  He broke the Boise State school record in scoring and now has 418 in his career.  The 50-yard field goal ties for the longest made by any WAC kicker this season.
