Sailor featured at rugby event

Wendell Sailor, one of Australia’s top pro players in Rugby League and Rugby Union, is holding a training and informational session tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kapiolani Park. The event is sponsored by Hawaii Rugby League in association with the American National Rugby League.

The HRL is hoping to establish more men’s and women’s teams in Hawaii with a season that would run from July through November. For information, contact Sean Strickland at 366-5006.

Benefit race honors injured paddler

Luke’s ThanksGeev’um Race, a benefit race in honor of injured paddler Luke Evslin, is set for 10 a.m. Sunday.

Evslin, a coach and paddler for Kailua, requested that proceeds from the event go to Project Pure Light, an organization that enables physically, mentally and emotionally disabled people to participate in water sports.

The race courses are from Waimanalo Beach Park to Kailua Beach, and from Makai Pier to Kailua Beach. The entry fee is $25 today and $30 race day between 7:30 and 9 a.m. Registration is available online at ocpaddler.com. Donations may be sent to Kailua Canoe Club, P.O. Box 177, Kailua, HI 96734. For information, contact Lois Hewitt at 330-9812.
