Villanova wins 40th in a row at home
Antonio Pena scored 17 points and Corey Fisher had 16 to lead No. 6 Villanova to an 82-66 victory over Boston University in the second round of the NIT Season Tip-Off last night.
The Wildcats (3-0) won their 40th straight game at The Pavilion, and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament next Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.
John Holland scored 14 points and Jake O’Brien had 13 for the Terriers (1-2).
Coming off a 37-point win over Marist on Tuesday, Villanova cruised again. The Wildcats led by 16 at halftime and were never seriously challenged.
Pena stole a pass and strolled in for an uncontested slam to cap an 18-5 run and give Villanova a 24-12 lead with 8:35 left in the first half.

E’Twaun Moore had 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds to help the Boilermakers (2-0) beat the Braves (0-3) in West Lafayette, Ind.

John Hart scored a career-high 16 points and made four of six 3-pointers, Sandi Marcius had 12 points and eight rebounds and JaJuan Johnson added 12 points for the Boilermakers.

Wesley Witherspoon had 24 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while Will Barton added 22 points keying a second-half rally to help the host Tigers beat the Demons.
Witherspoon was 5-for-7 from the field and converted all but one of his 14 free throws as Memphis (3-0) survived a second-half burst by the Demons (1-2).

Trae Golden, playing in place of an injured Melvin Goins, hit a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds left and the host Volunteers beat the Bears in the second round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Tennessee (3-0) had a seven-point lead with 27.9 seconds left off a pair of foul shots by Cameron Tatum.

Jimmer Fredette scored 26 points to lead the Cougers to a win over the Aggies in Provo, Utah.
With the Cougars (2-0) leading 74-71 and 25 seconds left, Noah Hartsock and Fredette each hit two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Brian Green finished the game with 17 points for Utah State (1-1).

Brandon Gibson scored five of his 12 points in the final 1:33 for the Bulldogs against the host Cougars.
Tied at 19 with 3:16 to go until the break, the Bulldogs (2-1) closed out the half on a 9-0 run.
San Jose State 74, San Francisco 64
Adrian Oliver scored 25 points to help the Spartans win their home opener over the Dons.
Justin Graham added 18 points for the Spartans (2-0), Wil Carter had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Calvin Douglas added 11 points.
Fresno State 74, Vanguard 42
Bennie Rhodes scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Bulldogs won their home opener over Vanguard.
Garrett Johnson scored 11 points and Tyler Johnson 10 for the Bulldogs (1-1), who enjoyed a 33-0 edge in fast-break points.
