Embrace your inner fashion designer at Bank of Hawaii’s Family Sunday taking place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this weekend at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, where the theme is "Woman of the Cloth."

Inspired by the textile exhibition "Embroidered and Embellished: The Margaret Brewer Fowler Collection," now on view at the academy, the event will feature art activities, entertainment, demonstrations of fabric dyeing, viewing of the beauty of Polynesian textiles, and more.

A cutting contest will allow contestants to show off their skills in taking scissors to a T-shirt to create their own work of art.

And there will be a "Project Runway"-style contest during which teams of two will be given 30 minutes and unique materials to sketch, design and complete an outfit. One team member will model the design for the audience, which will determine the winner.

Youths ages 1 to 17 can enter a drawing contest, with a prize of a Family Level membership to the academy (worth $95), with the winning artwork to grace next month’s event brochure.

Sale on Jasmine Street moves to Manoa

The annual artists’ Sale on Jasmine Street has moved to Manoa Gardens.

This year, the event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with works by 10 artists and goodies from Charlotte Tanaka’s Sweet Charlotte kitchen, including her newest offerings of sweet and spicy, toasty nuts.

Artists Deborah Kaneshiro, Wendy Kim Messier, Marie Kodama, Kim Kono, Gene Pijanowski, Candice Wakumoto, Jeanie Wyss, Fae Yamaguchi, Cora Yee and Lisa Yoshihara will offer a mix of handcrafted bags, wearables, ceramic ware, humorous Christmas ornaments, indigo scarves, jewelry and doggie treats.

Wakumoto will offer heart motif jewelry, and for the drama queen on your holiday shopping list, one-of-a-kind statement pieces.

Those looking ahead to the new year will find artsy Year of the Rabbit T-shirts.

Note that credit cards will not be accepted. Manoa Gardens is near Manoa Valley Park, past Manoa Marketplace, at Kahaloa Drive and Lowrey Avenue.
