East Oahu’s Ward named state House minority leader
Hawaii’s Republicans in the state House of Representatives have named Rep. Gene Ward as their new minority leader.
Ward, who represents Kalama Valley and Hawaii Kai, was selected Friday by the eight Republicans in the 51-member House. He replaces Rep. Lynn Finnegan, who unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor.
Ward said yesterday he’ll work toward fiscal responsibility and job creation.
With two additional Republicans in the House following Tuesday’s elections, their numbers grew for the first time in 10 years.
Rep. Kymberly Pine will continue to serve as minority floor leader.
The three freshman Republicans entering the House are George Fontaine, Aaron Johanson and Gil Riviere.
