An alert police officer arrested three people after spotting a man stealing items from a car in Waipahu.

The officer saw the 25-year-old man taking items from the front passenger seat of a stolen Lexus about midnight yesterday.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of breaking into a vehicle and drug charges after allegedly finding drugs on him.

A 43-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman standing outside the Lexus were also arrested on warrants.

At one point, a black Acura stopped next to the Lexus on the wrong side of the roadway and drove off. The Acura, also stolen, was later recovered.
