Man’s foot run over by city bus

A city bus reportedly ran over a man’s foot yesterday in Chinatown.

The accident occurred about 2:20 p.m. on Hotel Street in front of Amy’s Place at Smith Street.

Police said the man was in stable condition.

Glynne Parry of Australia said he tried to alert the driver, knocking on the bus door and saying a man was hit.

"He shrugged his shoulders, the lights changed, and he drove away," Parry said.

Police said the driver of TheBus returned to the scene and is cooperating with police.

No one saw the man being injured, but noticed him on the ground after the bus passed, police said. A witness said he heard a crunch and saw the man lying in the street after the bus passed.

Police said the victim refused to make a statement.

A supervisor for TheBus declined to comment.

Man charged in assault with knife

A 49-year-old Kawaihae man has been charged with cutting a woman with a knife on the Big Island.

Irvin Lopes was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault and violating a court order. He was being held in lieu of $12,000 bail, Big Island police said.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing on Kawaihae Road near Spencer Park at about 1:20 p.m. Monday. A 38-year-old Kawaihae woman said she had been arguing with an acquaintance when he cut her arms with a knife.

Firefighters took the woman to North Kohala Community Hospital, from where she was released after treatment

Police found Lopes near the old lighthouse off Akoni Pule Highway and arrested him at 2:10 p.m.

Man hit with bottle, his vehicle stolen

A 54-year-old man had his car stolen after another man struck him on the head with a beer bottle early Monday morning in Wahiawa.

Police said the car owner was walking to his vehicle when a 46-year-old man hit him with the bottle, then punched and kicked him.

The older man fell to the ground and got up to find his keys and vehicle missing, police said.

About 1 p.m. Monday, a patrol officer stopped a 32-year-old Nanakuli man driving the vehicle on Hoihoi Avenue in Whitmore Village and found drugs inside. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and several drug offenses.

Police are still looking for the assailant.

Woman accuses man of sex assault

A 28-year-old woman told police she was drugged and molested by an acquaintance in Waikiki.

The woman reported the man incapacitated her with alcohol and other drugs and performed unwanted sexual acts about 1 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Officers located the 28-year-old Waikiki man at 300 Wai Nani Way about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. He was booked on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault.

Washington man charged in road rage

Big Island police charged a 41-year-old Washington state man yesterday with various crimes that were reported as road rage in Kailua-Kona.

Authorities charged Christopher James Roberg with first-degree robbery, kidnapping, third-degree assault, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and two counts of terroristic threatening.

Roberg is being held in lieu of $132,000 bail.

A 21-year-old Kealakekua woman told police she was driving on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona at about 10:40 p.m. Monday when a car pulled up and stopped in front of her pickup truck.

The driver got out and allegedly went to her truck and tried to remove her keys from the ignition. He then grabbed her hair and removed personal items from her truck cab, police said.

The man put the stolen items in his car, then returned to the woman and threatened her with a knife, police said. He then grabbed a baseball bat from her truck bed and allegedly threatened her with it.

The man fled when another vehicle approached the scene.

Police found the man at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday at Palani Road and Kuakini Highway.

The woman refused treatment from fire personnel at the scene.
