KSSK makes it 10 years atop ratings

KSSK-FM 92.3 has been the No. 1 Honolulu radio station for 40 consecutive ratings surveys, or 10 years straight, according to Summer 2010 Arbitron figures released yesterday.

Meanwhile, the station’s morning team of Michael W. Perry and Larry Price continued to dominate the a.m. airwaves with their simulcast on KSSK-FM and KSSK-AM 590, garnering just shy of 20 percent of the overall morning radio audience, 12 and older. It is the only morning show that commands double-digit ratings among the broadest measure of Oahu listeners.

Those ratings provide bragging rights for the top stations, though the battle for advertising revenue occurs in the demographic breakdowns.

In the key demographic of adults 25 to 54, Perry and Price led with 16.2 share points, closely followed by the KDNN-FM 98.5 "Wake-Up Crew" of Rory Wild, Gregg Hammer and "Krey-Z" Oshiro. KUMU’s "Frankie B. and Mandy" show, presently ranked No. 3, has been the only other show to get double digits against Perry and Price among adults, as it did in the Spring 2010 survey.

KUMU’s old-school rhythm and blues format went into the survey period with a target on its back, square in the cross hairs of KIKI-FM 93.9, which ditched its decades-old format, flipped to old-school R&B and changed its call letters to KHJZ-FM in September.
