Learn to garden and cook soup

Two workshops Saturday at the Green House Sustainable Learning Center will teach you how to grow your own food and cook soup.

» From 10 a.m. to noon, learn step by step how to begin a garden to feed your family. Seeds and cuttings will be shared. Fee is $20.

» From 12:30 to 2 p.m., the center’s "soup series" kicks off with the how-to’s for making classic French onion soup. Children 10 and up are welcome to join as parent-child teams. Cost is $15 adults and $8 children.

Benefit features dessert samplers

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, pay a heavenly visit to the 21st Annual "Dessert Fantasy" fundraiser, featuring no less than 50 different desserts.

Patrons have two hours — 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 7 — to eat to their heart’s content. They can also vote for their favorite dessert, bid in a silent auction and enjoy live entertainment.

The event will take place at Pacific Beach Hotel and benefits United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii. Tickets are $25; children 5 and under are free.

Call 532-6744 or visit www.ucpahi.org.

Wine and dinner to help hospice

A wine-tasting benefit for Hospice Hawaii plans to take guests on a journey to Italy. This year’s Na Hoa Malama offers vino from some of the country’s greatest wine regions, followed by an Italian-themed dinner with wine pairings by HASR Wine Co. The evening will also include a silent auction.

All proceeds will benefit Hospice Hawaii.

The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Waialae Country Club. For reservations, call 924-9255.
