The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the East-West Center two grants totaling $360,900 for educational programs on World War II.

The first grant will allow the center to offer a three-week for secondary school teachers on Southeast Asia’s strategic place and role in the war.

The $180,900 grant will fund the session, titled "Southeast Asia: At the Crossroads of World War II," scheduled for July 2011.

The second grant, for $180,000, will enable the center to conduct a pair of weeklong workshops in June 2011 for secondary school teachers that puts the meaning of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in a global context.

The center is seeking further funding to bring Japanese teachers to join the discussion, as they have in previous years.

The center said Thursday this is the sixth time it has received NEH grants for the Pearl Harbor workshop.
