Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz received an "excused absence" from yesterday’s practice, head coach Greg McMackin and offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich said.

Both coaches said Moniz was working on a "presentation" for one of his classes.

"We give quarterbacks the day off after they throw for more than 500 yards around here," Rolovich mused.

In a 41-21 victory over Louisiana Tech, Moniz completed 42 of 58 passes for 532 yards and four touchdowns.

Moniz, a junior, leads the nation in total offense (390.60 yards per game), passing-yard average (373.80) and total passing yards (1,869).

Green confident despite fumbles

Running back Alex Green vowed to rebound after losing two fumbles against Louisiana Tech. On the first, nickel back Tank Calais used his helmet to free the football from Green’s grip. On the second, Green was hit by defensive end Matt Broha on a shuttle play.

"It was a good play on their part," Green said. "It wasn’t like it slipped out."

Teammates offered immediate encouragement.

"It’s part of the game," running back Chizzy Dimude said. "You have to bounce back. You can’t keep thinking about it. You have to forget about it."

Green had worked this offseason on securing the football when he ran.

"Everybody has bad games," Green said. "I have to keep my confidence up."

Green is one of the Warriors’ best second-effort runners. On receptions, his yards-after-contact average is 12.50. On runs, his yards-after-hit average is 3.70.

"That’s what they teach us," Green said. "Get the ball and go."

Bradley should be good to go for Fresno

Left wideout Rodney Bradley, who missed the past game because of a strained left knee, has been cleared to play this weekend.

Bradley said he will have limited duty during today’s 2-hour practice, then go full speed during tomorrow’s 90-minute workout.

"I wanted to make sure I took the right precautions," Bradley said.

Bradley will regain his starting spot for Saturday’s road game against Fresno State.

Blount sees increased role

When the Warriors go to their empty-backfield set, slotback Dustin Blount will be the fifth receiver.

"He’s worked hard, and he’s hard to tackle," Rolovich said. "He deserves playing time."

Blount’s yards-after-catch average is 11.0.

"The more you get into the game, the more confidence you get," Blount said.
