Hanabusa says new Djou ad misleads voters
Democrat Colleen Hanabusa’s campaign for Congress says a new TV ad by Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou misleads voters by quoting her out of context.
The ad shows a clip of Hanabusa from a January debate in which she said, “in government, I don’t think there’s waste, per se,” followed by Djou claiming the government is wasting billions of dollars.
Hanabusa campaign spokesman Richard Rapoza said in a statement Monday the ad failed to show that Hanabusa was talking about the state government — not the federal government — after Republican Gov. Linda Lingle had made steep budget cuts.
During the debate, state Senate President Hanabusa clarified that she was talking about state government.
Djou’s ad doesn’t distinguish between state and federal waste.
