Chaminade soccer teams split
Chaminade split its PacWest soccer matches against Academy of Art yesterday at Saint Louis School field, with the Silverword women edging the Urban Knights 1-0 and the men losing 2-1 in overtime.
In the women’s contest, Tiffany Nakata scored off a pass from Amber Bonifacio in the 51st minute for the only goal. It was the second time in three days that Chaminade (2-4, 2-2 PacWest) beat AAU (1-8-1, 0-8) 1-0.
In the men’s match, Grimur Grimsson scored the game-winner 7 minutes into overtime to lift the Urban Knights (5-7, 4-4) past the Silverswords (1-5, 0-4). It was AAU’s fourth straight victory, upping its overtime record to 3-0.
Chaminade tied the match in the 84th minute on a wind-aided own goal. The Swords’ goal kick was cleared away by the Knights, but a strong wind pushed it back into the goal for a 1-1 tie.
Chaminade goalie Hays Sperry had 11 saves.
