You can’t take Hawaii out of the designer
And then there was one.
Last night’s episode of "Project Runway" was the first in which Hawaii fans felt cheated: They could cheer for only one Hawaii contestant — Andy South of Waianae — still doing battle in the popular fashion-design reality show.
Of course, Ivy Higa, pictured, who was booted last week from the show, already had her share of detractors for her occasionally snarky demeanor. The 30-year-old usually listed "New York, NY" as her hometown in video captions, but she’s originally from Kailua-Kona on the Big Island. A few isle viewers might have felt dissed by that.
But in one episode, the camera caught Higa in the sewing room, her bare foot treading the pedal. You can take the designer out of Hawaii, but you can’t take Hawaii out of the designer. Not all of it, anyway.

Having urged school children in August to get their flu vaccination, Aiona told KITV that he doesn’t get vaccinated himself.
"I have read the literature on it, I have read the science on it and I say it has some merit to it and I am not convinced that vaccines are more beneficial than harmful," he explained. "But I don’t think in any way my personal views hamper our efforts to get people to get vaccinated. I encourage people to get vaccinated."
