Hirono, Djou split votes on spending measure

Hawaii’s two U.S. House members have split their votes on a stopgap measure to keep the federal government in operating funds for the next two months and avoid a pre-election federal shutdown.

Rep. Mazie Hirono joined most of her fellow Democrats in the House in approving the measure 228-194 Thursday.

Republican Congressman Charles Djou voted against the spending measure needed to keep federal agencies operating when the new budget year starts Friday.

Voting “yes” were 227 Democrats and one Republican. Voting “no” were 22 Democrats and 172 Republicans.
