Kim advances at PGA qualifier
Former Hawaii state high school champion Chan Kim tied for ninth at last week’s PGA Tour prequalifying event in Dallas and advanced to a first-stage qualifier.
Kim, who won the state title in 2006 when he was a sophomore at Kaimuki High, was one of 44 who advanced from The Golf Club of Dallas. He shot rounds of 66-69-73-70 to finish at 2-under-par 278.
There are 12 first-stage qualifiers in October. For the first time, one is in Hawaii, at Turtle Bay Resort’s Palmer Course, Oct. 27-30. Second-stage qualifiers are in November, with the final stage Dec. 1-6 in Florida.
