WAC meets with five potential new member schools
The Western Athletic Conference met with five candidates for membership this week in Dallas and hopes to extend invitations to some or all within the "next 30 to 60 days," commissioner Karl Benson said today.
"This is probably our goal," Benson said in a conference media call.
The five are: Montana, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio, Seattle and Denver. Seattle and Denver are being considered as basketball-only members.
Benson said all but Montana made presentations to the WAC Membership Committee Tuesday and that campus visits would likely follow.
"Should there be a majority (opinion) in terms of models, it appears that we could be ready to extend invitations in the 30-60 day window," Benson said.
The WAC, now composed of nine members, will be left with six after Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada leave for the Mountain West Conference.
