North-facing shores should see wave heights of 12 to 16 feet today that will drop to 10 to 14 feet tomorrow, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service issued a high-surf advisory for all islands that will remain in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Kauai officials today saw strong currents and waves with 15- to 20-foot faces hitting north Kauai beaches from Hanalei to Kee.

Kauai officials called the conditions “extremely hazardous” and recommended that people use Anahola, Kealia, Lydgate, Poipu, Salt Pond and Kekaha beaches.

Throughout the islands today, west-facing shores are expected to have waves of six to eight feet, which are expected to fall to heights of four to six feet tomorrow.

Surf along east facing shores will be two to four feet today, with higher sets possible through tomorrow.

Surf along south facing shores will be two to four feet through tomorrow.

A new, “reinforcing north northwest swell” that’s expected to arrive tomorrow night is forecast to drive up surf heights again on Tuesday, the weather service said.

As the swell subsides on Wednesday, a west northwest swell is expected to generate moderate-sized surf along north and west facing shores through Friday. 

A new swell arriving from the southern hemisphere on Tuesday should produce moderate sized surf heights along south facing shores through mid-week, the weather service said.
