October HIFF will feature at least 6 Korean films

The Hawaii International Film Festival is right around the corner and is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

There at least six Korean films this year: "Man from Nowhere," "71: Into the Fire," "Woochi," "The Actresses," "Housemaid" and "Poetry." The actors and director will attend the screening of "71: Into the Fire" on Oct. 22. Tickets will go on sale to HIFF members Thursday and to nonmembers on Oct. 4.

THIS WEEK’S SYNOPSES

"I AM LEGEND"
Episode 3 and 4

Tonight, 6:45 p.m.: Seol-hee and Ji-wook go to arbitration but fail to come to an agreement. Hwa-ja asks Seol-hee if anything’s going on, but Seol-hee can’t tell her she’s going through a divorce. Ji-wook offers Ran-hee a generous alimony. In exchange, he asks her to live the rest of her life quietly. Ran-hee asks if she can join Madonna Band for a documentary about her.

Tonight, 7:45 p.m.: Seol-hee barges into Ji-wook’s office and rips up the agreement in his face, telling him she’ll put up a fight. Ran-hee gets drunk and throws a tantrum in front of the band, saying Seol-hee always ruins everything. The producer finds out who Seol-hee is and decides to go ahead with the documentary, this time focusing on Seol-hee.

"DEFINITELY NEIGHBORS"
Episodes 37 and 38

Tomorrow, 7:45 p.m.: Sung-jae meets Mee-jin’s mother, who wants to move the wedding along. However, Jong-soon continues to be difficult. Gun-hee finally tells Ji-yong how he really feels. Although she feels the same, she tells him that they would never work out. In-soo tells his wife that he found Jong-min’s mother, but that Jong-min can no longer take care of his mother on his own. Woo-jin’s ex-wife is looking for him.

Tuesday, 7:45 p.m.: Soo-hee goes to Woo-jin’s office to confront him about his new woman. Woo-jin tries to talk to her, but her mind’s set on ruining his life. Jong-soon tells Mee-jin to give up her son if she wants to marry Sung-jae. Both Sung-jae and Mee-jin turn to Ji-yong for advice. Gun-hee expresses his feelings for Ji-yong. Sun-ok still hasn’t decided what to do about Jong-min.

"MY GIRLFRIEND IS A NINE-TAILED FOX"
Episodes 3 and 4

Wednesday, 7:45 p.m.: Daewoong adamantly denies Miho is his girlfriend, and follows Hyein. Byungsu tells Miho that Daewoong has a crush on Hyein. Afraid Daewoong will "mate" with Hyein, she follows them. Miho and Daewoong go to a supermarket for free samples when Miho hears someone’s voice calling her.

Thursday, 7:45 p.m.: Daewoong leaves Miho alone on a cruise ship. Miho starts to lose her powers when the ship sails and she gets further away from her marble. Her body starts to transform and she locks herself in the restroom, away from other people’s eyes.

"LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL"
Episodes 41 and 42

Friday, 7:45 p.m.: Yeonju and Hoseop go out on a date, and Hoseop asks Yeonju for permission every time he wants to hold her hand or hug her. Yeonju tells him to be more comfortable with her, but Hoseop tells her he feels as if they’re starting all over again every time they meet. Grandpa and Grandma return from their trip to Seoul furious at each other. Grandpa asks Grandma for a divorce.

Saturday, 7:45 p.m.: Gyungsu spends a day with his wife and daughter and is overcome with emotion at the sight of his daughter. Taesup feels a little uneasy about Gyungsu’s ex-wife’s visit. Minjae tells Yeonju she could tell that Hosup likes her very much, but it’s hard to tell whether she likes him or not. Yeonju tells her she’s uneasy about expressing her emotion.
