Former USS Hawaii captain is relieved of job in Washington state
The skipper who was in charge of the submarine USS Hawaii from 2005 to 2007 was relieved of command in Bangor, Wash.
Capt. David Solms, commander of the Trident Training Facility, was relieved earlier this week after officials lost confidence in his ability to command following an investigation, the Navy said.
Solms has been temporarily reassigned to Navy Region Northwest. He took command of the Trident Training Facility in September 2009.
Solms, a Colorado Springs, Colo., native, was fired because of "inappropriate personal behavior," Navy Times quoted a Navy spokesman as saying.
Solms assumed command of Hawaii in May 2005 while the submarine was still based on the East Coast.
During his tour, the ship was christened, delivered to the Navy, commissioned, and completed significant test, evaluation and certification events, his biography states.
