Kauai police say body found today may be that of missing California woman
The body of a woman found today in a remote area in Wailua is believed to be Nola “Becky” Thompson, a visitor from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., according to Kauai police.
A search team located the body in a stream at about 9:18 a.m., about two miles from the loop road where a rented, silver two-door Chrysler convertible was discovered yesterday.
Authorities returned to the area today to search for Thompson, 45, who was reported missing on Sept. 2. Thompson had rented the convertible, which was supposed to be returned the next day when she was scheduled to fly home.
Dental records or fingerprints will be examined to determine positive identification. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled to be performed Monday to determine the cause of death.
Kauai Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher said foul play is not suspected.
