No. 4 Hawaii rallies past Michigan State

Junior All-American Kanani Danielson tied her career high with 32 kills and No. 4 Hawaii turned back Michigan State, 25-18, 31-33, 24-26, 25-20, 15-11, tonight in the 23rd Hawaiian Airlines Classic volleyball tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Freshman Emily Hartong, who played both middle and outside, added a career-high 12 kills and sophomore middle Brittany Hewitt 10 kills and seven blocks for the Rainbow Wahine (4-0).

Megan Schatzle led the Spartans (4-1) with 22 kills and Becca Zlabis added 21. 

The match lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Hawaii faces New Mexico in tomorrow’s second tournament match. The Lobos (2-3) were swept by No. 10 USC 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 in today’s earlier match.

The Women of Troy (4-0) play Michigan State tomorrow at 5 p.m.
