Abercrombie and Hannemann square off in televised debate tonight

Democratic gubernatorial candidates Neil Abercrombie and Mufi Hannemann will face off tonight in a live debate.

The debate, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Blaisdell Center’s Pikake Room, is sponsored by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii News Now. It will be broadcast on KHNL, KGMB and KFVE, with a re-broadcast Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. on KHNL and KGMB.

Keahi Tucker and Tannya Joaquin will moderate. Star-Advertiser political columnist Richard Borreca, MidWeek political columnist Dan Boylan, Hawaii News Now reporter Teri Okita and former KGMB anchorwoman Kim Gennaula will serve as panelists.

Hannemann resigned as Honolulu mayor and Abercrombie resigned as U.S. Congressman  this year to run for governor.

The winner of the Democratic Party primary election on Sept. 18 is expected to face Republican Lt. Gov Duke Aiona in the Nov. 2 general election.
