Stars, celebs and former skaters chow down at one Roy’s or another

The Tavern at Princeville by Roy Yamaguchi, a new concept restaurant by the award-winning chef, is set to open in mid-September at the Princeville Prince Golf Clubhouse on Kauai. The menu includes flatbreads, a BLT, a "lolo" burger, a donburi loco moco, short ribs, lamb chops, beef stew and fried chicken — fun comfort food a skosh less formal than the usual Roy’s eatery. …

…Roy’s dining rooms continue to attract celebs: actor Sam Worthington ("Avatar," "Clash of the Titans") and producer Jerry Bruckheimer (franchise films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "National Treasure" and TV hits like "CSI" and "Cold Case") dined separately at Roy’s Waikiki. Out at Roy’s Kahana on Maui, musician Carlos Santana and fiancee Cindy Blackman, drummer for Lenny Kravitz (and Santana’s touring drummer), and Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and husband Bret Hedican. At Roy’s Waikoloa, Wayne Newton was the one singing "danke schoen" to the staff. …

…SIGHT ‘EMS: Quite a stunning double-truck promo People mag had for the CW’s Sept. 9 reboot of "Nikita," with local gal Maggie Q reclining over two pages — though she’s not identified by name. …

…Actor Johnny Depp and actress Hillary Swank separately showed skin in the same People — he on Maui, towel-drying daughter Lily-Rose, and she in a bikini during a Kailua-Kona vacation with husband John Campisi. …

…DINING OUT: That was Jim Nabors lunching with actress pal Loni Anderson and hubby Bob Flick (founder of the Brothers Four) at the Pacific Club a few days back. …

Joe Smith of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers dined first at D.K. Kodama‘s d.k. Steak House, then moved over to Sansei with his wife and another couple. While here for that WWE square-off at Blaisdell Arena, a host of wrestlers put down a lot of sake bombs and consumed beaucoup sushi at Sansei. Among them: Chris Jerico, Ted Bidbase, Wade Barreto, The Miz, Natalya, Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith, Yoshi Tatsuo, David Otunga, Sheamus and the Bella Twins. …

Eliot and Bonnie Tiegel (he’s a writer, she’s the senior producer of "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider") just wound up their annual stays at the Four Seasons at Hualalai and the Kahala Resort. …

…COCONUT WIRELESS: "The Brothers Cazimero: At Home in the Islands," at 9 p.m. Sept. 9 (with a hana hou Sept. 11), is in the edit stage at KGMB. Phil Arnone is directing. It’s part of Robert and Roland Cazimero’s 35th anniversary in island show biz. …

…Kudos to PBS for its special "South Pacific" telecast from Broadway featuring our Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary. The show wound up its 2 1/2-year run last Sunday. The broadcast drew 5.5 million viewers, the largest audience ever for "Live from Lincoln Center." …

…Society of Seven leader Tony Ruivivar’s mastery in redefining, re-imagining and remounting his classic septet (himself, Bert Sagum, Hoku Low and Wayne Wakai, plus newbies Elika Santos, Roy Venturina and Vince Mendoza) is what shines in the current homecoming gig at the Outrigger Waikiki’s Main Showroom. Guest warbler Arshiel, 15, a Farrington student, has "American Idol"-worthy pipes, and the relaunch is rousing, resourceful and totally refreshing. …

…Actress Cheryl Ladd and hubby Brian Russell were at the Kahala Resort recently and asked the hotel to relay their aloha to longtime keyboarder Kit Samson, but he was unable to get together for dinner. Look for Samson to provide entertainment again at the Star-Advertiser’s ‘Ilima Awards Oct. 11 at Diamond Head Theatre. …
