Wilson shoots 62 at US Amateur
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. » Jeff Wilson shot the second-lowest score in the 110-year history of the U.S. Amateur to take a seven-stroke lead after the first day of play yesterday.
Wilson closed his round with a pair of eagles for a course-record 62 at the par-72, 7,420-yard Home Course — one of two courses used for the championship.
Honolulu’s Alex Ching shot a 74 to tie for 63rd, while Rudy Cabalar of Ewa Beach struggled to a 12-over 84. Punahou sophomore Kalena Preus was at 9 over after nine holes when play was suspended.
Hawaii Pacific adds 8 to golf team
Hawaii Pacific golf coach Steve Phillips completed his first recruiting class by adding eight newcomers for next season, the school announced yesterday.
The newcomers are Daniel deRozario (Lewisville, Texas), Jonathan Allen (Houston), Ian Boat (Leawood, Kan.), James Fawssett (Surrey, England), Mackenzie Keats (Cochrane, Alberta), Andy Rodby (Redmond, Ore.), Harry Chang (Portland, Ore.) and Rob Taptich (Yorkville, Ill.).

Tomey to speak at luncheon
Former University of Hawaii football coach Dick Tomey will be the guest speaker at the Hawaii Society of Business Professionals luncheon on Sept. 16.
Tomey’s topic will be "The Human Connection." He will draw parallels between college football and any competitive enterprise.
