Man arrested after grandson hurt

A 52-year-old grandfather from Wahiawa was arrested on suspicion of felony abuse after police said he slapped his grandsons and held one of them until the boy became unconscious Saturday night.

The boys were playing in the back of their grandmother’s vehicle around 10 p.m. Saturday when their grandfather told them to stop, police said. When the boys kept on playing, the grandfather became upset, went to the back of the vehicle and allegedly slapped both of them, police said.

The grandfather then allegedly pressed his thumb on the right eye of the older, 11-year-old brother and covered the boy’s mouth and nose so he could not breathe, causing him to pass out, police said.

The boy was revived and taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

Injured man found near McKinley

A man in his 50s who appeared to have been assaulted yesterday morning was spotted lying on the ground in critical condition at the main entrance to McKinley High School, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city’s Emergency Services Department.

A man riding a bicycle past the high school spotted the injured man at 7:23 a.m., Cheplic said.

Paramedics treated and transported the man in critical condition to a trauma center, Cheplic said.
