Local boy Anthony Ruivivar, who played paramedic Carlos Nieto on NBC’s "Third Watch" from 1999 to 2005, is going legal on ABC’s "The Whole Truth" this fall.

Ruivivar will be Alejo Salazar, a lawyer, in the new drama airing at 9 p.m. Wednesdays here. The show pits Joely Richardson ("Nip/Tuck") as a deputy bureau chief with the New York District Attorney’s office against Rob Morrow ("Numb3rs") as a rising N.Y. criminal attorney. Also look for Ruivivar in the Matt Damon flick "The Adjustment Bureau" sometime next year. …

FURTHERMORE: Anthony’s dad, Tony Ruivivar, leader of the original Society of Seven and mentor of the spinoff Society of Seven Las Vegas group, is one of the partners now operating the Outrigger Waikiki showroom and is finalizing plans for his "classic" SOS group to return to Waikiki starting Aug. 24, since its run at the Gold Coast in Las Vegas is pau. Joining founders Ruivivar and Bert Sagum and veterans Wayne Wakai and Hoku Low will be recent arrivals Vince Mendoza, Roy Venturina and Layton "Elika" Santos. Locals will remember Santos as Enjolras in Diamond Head Theatre’s "Les Miserables" in 2008. …

AROUND TOWN: Actress Penelope Cruz, in town filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," was part of an entourage of eight who dined at D.K. Kodama’s Sansei Seafood and Sushi Bar at the Waikiki Beach Marriott. Cruz’s hubby, Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, also was among the diners who noshed on sushi, sashimi and the signature crab ramen. …

Bill Tapia, the 103-year-old ukulele wizard, sat in with Julian Yarong’s Julian and Friends jam session last Sunday at Kainoa’s Lounge in Haleiwa, when saxophonist Gabe Baltazar was in the audience. "It was an honor for Bill to jam with us," said Yarong, whose next gig at Kainoa’s is Sept. 19. …

Kudos to the cast and crew of Diamond Head Theatre’s just-closed "Sound of Music," which hit all the right notes — in casting, performance, costumes, sets and lighting. The leads! The children! The Rodgers & Hammerstein tunes! ‘Twas hard to say "So Long, Farewell." …

We ran into Romano’s Macaroni Grill franchise owner Randy Schoch of Desert Island Restaurants following "Sound of Music" and asked him about the many "new" menu items. "It was a franchise thing, where health-conscious recipes were introduced," said Schoch. But Romano’s original lasagna recipe will be restored — folks love it, said Schoch. Meanwhile, Schoch’s wife, Cheri, and their kids Randall and Victoria, had to end summer vacation and returned to Scottsdale, Ariz. Schoch has stayed on to visit his Big Island Macaroni Grill (and Ruth’s Chris Steak House franchise, too). …

KAUAI KAPERS: Actor Beau Bridges, who owns a home on the Garden Isle, bought fabric and ordered aloha shirts for his family, including Oscar-winning brother Jeff Bridges, so the folks at Julie Yukimura’s Kapaia Stitchery have been sewing like crazy. …

And actor Matt Damon and family splashed in the Kauai surf recently. …

While on a day trip to Kauai recently, we lunched at 22* North, formerly Gaylord’s, at Kilohana Plantation in Lihue. The restaurant grows its herbs and most of its veggies on site to maintain the garden-to-table philosophy of a green restaurant. Even water glasses are recycled from wine bottles. The menu’s a culinary adventure, too, so explore. …
