Man pushing mo-ped hurt in accident

One mauka-bound lane of Kaimalie Street in Ewa Beach was closed yesterday afternoon following an accident.

The accident involved a vehicle and a mo-ped and happened near Fort Weaver Road at about 4:15 p.m., police said.

Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman, said a man in his 70s was apparently pushing the mo-ped when he was hit by the vehicle.

The man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

Suspect held in broken-bottle assault

A 21-year-old man was charged Thursday in an alleged assault with a broken beer bottle involving a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl last week in Kona.

Andrew Storseth of Kailua-Kona was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and terroristic threatening. He was being held at the Kona cellblock in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Police responded Aug. 4 to a report of a stabbing in downtown Kailua-Kona after an argument broke out where five people were drinking at about 7 p.m.

Storseth allegedly used a broken beer bottle to cut a Kailua-Kona man, 19, on the body and face and scratch a a 15-year-old Kailua-Kona girl’s arm when she tried to intervene, police said. Both victims were treated at Kona Community Hospital and released.

Police recovered a broken beer bottle they say was used as a weapon.

Storseth, who ran from the parking lot, was arrested Tuesday night.

Biker flees while holding tot, police say

An Anahola man on an unlicensed motorcycle led Kauai police on a chase Tuesday until the pursuing officer noticed that he had a young child on the front of the dirt bike, police said yesterday.

The pursuit began at 10 a.m. on Kawaihau Road in Kapaa when the suspect refused to stop, police said.

Police identified the driver of the dirt bike as David Alapai, 29.

Alapai was located about an hour later driving a car on Kukui Hale Street in Anahola. He was stopped and arrested for allegedly driving with a revoked license, resisting an order to stop driving, reckless driving and reckless endangering, failure to appear in court and contempt of court. Alapai was also arrested in two unrelated theft cases.

Police found the motorcycle Alapai drove and another motorcycle at his campsite in Anahola. Police said both were stolen last month.

Alapai was being held at the Kauai Community Correctional Center in Wailua after failing to post $15,200 bail.

Passenger in car hurt in rock attack

A large lava rock thrown at a moving vehicle Wednesday night in Anahola injured a female passenger, knocking out two of her teeth, breaking her jaw and causing major lacerations to her face, police said.

Police arrested a 62-year-old Anahola man on suspicion of first-degree assault. Michael Grace was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.

Police said people in a gray Honda were arguing near the Anahola Canoe Club. Four people were in the car when the rock was thrown at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday on South Aliomanu Road.

The victim, a Kauai resident, was in fair condition at Wilcox Hospital.
