Veteran Hawaii singer and actress Loretta Ables Sayre will appear next Wednesday on PBS in the television premiere of "South Pacific," the award-winning revival of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

The "Live from Lincoln Center" production will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Aug. 21.

The broadcast marks the end of the show’s two-year run, the longest of any revival of a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. The final stage performance is Aug. 22.

Ables Sayre won a Theatre World Award and was nominated for a Tony award for her portrayal of Bloody Mary, the manipulative mother of a young native girl.

She has performed locally since 1979 at many of Hawaii’s top venues, including the Lewers Lounge, the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the Kahala Hotel and Resort.

Ables Sayre also has appeared in television shows such as "Magnum P.I." and "Baywatch Hawaii," and can be heard frequently as a voice on television commercials.
