A deserted old beach house near Keaau Beach Park burned to the ground this evening.

The fire, on the makai side of Farrington Highway across from Ohikilolo Ranch, was reported at 5:30 p.m. 

When firefighters arrived, the building was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters had to shuttle water to the location, about 1 to 1.5  miles past Keaau Beach Park and before Makua Cave.

The house was unoccupied, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Police stopped traffic due to the large amount of smoke the fire generated.

Fire investigators are continuing to look into the cause of the fire and did not yet have a damage estimate.
