Expert guide to beautyland
Two representatives from Victoria’s Secret Beauty are heading to Hawaii to share beauty secrets and scents for the coming season.
First up, Victoria’s Secret supermodel makeup artist Patrick Eichler will share some of his secrets and perform runway makeovers from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Ala Moana store. Appointments are being taken at (877) 883-5794; walk-ins may be accommodated if time allows.
Mark Knitowski, vice president of fragrance, will be at the store between 1 and 5 p.m. Aug. 21 and 22 to help consumers pick a fragrance for fall.
Eichler said that during store appearances, he’s always bombarded with requests for specific celebrity looks.
"Most people are so connected through the Internet that they know everything that’s going on in celebrityland, so they say, ‘I want to look like this person, or this (Victoria’s Secret) Angel,’" he said.

Never mind if you’re a middle-aged Mililani mom before a makeover. "Victoria’s Secret Beauty is about bringing out the sexy in everyone, bringing out the bombshell in you," he said.
It’s not too far-fetched. By now we’ve all seen those supermarket tabloids screaming "Celebrities without makeup!" while happily drinking in the images of blotchy skin, undefined eyes and pale, dry lips and thinking, "Who can’t look great with the help of a makeup and hair team?"
Even for those who don’t see themselves in that light, Eichler said: "I go to a CPA because I don’t know finances. That’s why you go to a professional. A professional makeup artist can look at you objectively and bring out the beauty he sees in you, that you may not see in yourself."
The Victoria’s Secret Angels may start with better genes and bone structure, Eichler said, "but they have the same questions as everyone else: how to cover spots, how to cover dark circles, how to make my eyes look bigger, how to fake a tan, how to keep lips moisturized."

"The more I travel, the more I understand women have the same needs everywhere I go."
Making up the models before a photo shoot or fashion show involves starting with a good moisturizer, he said, and VS Beauty specializes in color with subtle shimmer or luminosity to create the look of youth and health.
And as far as mapping the supermodel look, Eichler will be showcasing some of VS Beauty’s most popular products, including the Fall Face Kit Collection of three kits ($28 each) for three skin tones: light, medium and dark.
Each comprehensive kit was devised by the VS Makeup Pro Team to contain the elements needed to re-create their bombshell looks: three eye shadows to create a modern smoky eye, and one each of eye liner, mascara, blush and lip gloss, with a face chart and step-by-step instructions.
Eichler said a typical beauty routine will start with moisturizer and concealer.
"Most women have these things already. The rest, we’ve got covered."
