Motorcycle crash injures pair
Two people are recovering after a motorcycle crash yesterday morning near Wahiawa.
Callers reported the motorcyclist, carrying one passenger, ran into a guardrail about two miles south of Poamoho Street on Kaukonahua Road shortly after 10 a.m., police said. The male driver was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition, police said. A female passenger was in serious, but stable condition.
Police closed Kaukonahua Road for about 2 1/2 hours to investigate.
The road is notorious for motor vehicle accidents, particularly along its S-curve.
Waialua wildfire burns 15 acres
Firefighters returned yesterday morning to a wildfire that started near Waialua.
The fire started shortly after 5 p.m. Friday and burned 15 acres. Officials initially estimated 100 acres were burned.

Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said firefighters returned about 8:30 a.m. and fully contained the blaze in a ravine off Kaukonahua Road.
Firefighters battle small Maui blaze
Maui firefighters were fighting a small brush fire in a macadamia nut field in Wailuku, Maui County officials said.
Fire crews from three stations were at the scene, and two helicopters made water drops. The fire burned one to two acres in a field off Malaihi Road today and is about a quarter-mile from the nearest structure.
The cause remains unknown, and no one was injured.
Suspect arrested in victim’s dragging
Police arrested a 26-year-old Ewa Beach man who allegedly dragged another man with his truck in an attempt to steal the victim’s backpack Friday morning in Waikiki.
The victim, a 23-year-old man, and a friend caught a ride from two male strangers in a truck about midnight in Waikiki, police said.
After dropping the men off, the driver grabbed the victim’s backpack and drove off with the victim hanging onto the pickup truck, police said. The victim fell off after about a half-mile and had several scrapes, police said. He went to the hospital on his own.
About 2:10 p.m. the same day, the suspect was arrested at the main police station in connection with the incident. He was booked on suspicion of first-degree robbery and second-degree attempted murder.
Kitchen fire damages Mililani home
A Mililani home sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage as result of a kitchen fire that broke out about 6:50 p.m. yesterday.
A resident of the house was able to control the blaze with a fire extinguisher until Honolulu firefighters arrived.
No one was injured in the incident.
