Charges for the most extensive offering of University of Hawaii sports events in the nine-year history of pay-per-view will rise by $20, Oceanic Time Warner Cable announced.

The price tag for renewal subscribers on Oahu is $420 while new orders will be assessed $500 with neighbor island subscribers paying half the price, Oceanic said. Individual events will be priced from $25 to $65.

The 18-event, 20-game package will include the largest selection of Warriors football with 12 of UH’s 13 games. Only the Sept. 2 season opener against Southern California is excluded. That game will be shown on ESPN.

Last year’s package had 15 events and 18 games, but only nine of UH’s 13 football games.

This year, all the home games except the Nov. 20 game with San Jose State are scheduled to be shown in high definition, Oceanic said. The six road games are available as a separate $300 package. UH football season-ticket customers can receive the road game pack for $99.

Three UH men’s basketball games and five women’s volleyball matches from the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, three featuring the Rainbow Wahine, will complete the package.

Oceanic, which is partnered in the venture with UH and KFVE, said renewal and new pay-per-view customers will receive a certificate good for free admission to two UH home events among men’s volleyball, women’s basketball and men’s baseball, subject to seat availability.

In a release, KFVE general manager John Fink said, "… We believe this (pay-per-view) option is once again a great alternative for interested fans who cannot go or choose not to go to these UH events."

Last year’s package did approximately $3.4 million in sales, down from $4.1 million in 2008. UH’s share was approximately $2.5 million in 2009, down form $2.6 in 2008.

The initial offering of pay-per-view in 2002 included seven UH events, had no road games and was priced at $75 on Oahu.
