Soccer on the beach at Fort DeRussy
About 60 teams are expected to compete at the 4th Hawaii Sand Soccer Championshps at Fort DeRussy Beach, Aug. 21-22.
Play is in 15 divisions from under-6 through adults. The winners of the adult divisions earn an invitation to the 2011 Southern California Beach Championships.

Flag football for kids
The Hawaii Football School, in conjunction with the NFL’s "Play 60," is sponsoring a flag football league on Oahu.
The coed program for boys and girls, ages 4 to 17, has teams in Pearl City, Makakilo, Kahuku, Kailua and Kahala. The season runs from Aug. 8 through the Oct. 3 bowl games at Aloha Stadium.

Beach volleyball title up for grabs
The last Hawaii Volleyball Association beach tournament of the season will take place tomorrow with an all-expenses trip to Chicago at stake.
The AVP Next Barefoot Wine Tournament — with men’s and women’s pro and recreational divisions — includes a total prize purse of $2,000. Pro division entrants must be at least 21 and be up-to-date AVP members.

Top badminton player to perform
The world’s top-ranked women’s badminton player, Xu Huaiwen, will demonstrate her championship skills at the Honolulu Badminton Club tomorrow at 4 p.m. at 1336 Dillingham Blvd. Xu played for the German national team for eight years and was once ranked the top women player in the world.
