Wavecom customers lose service

Wavecom Solutions’ customers on four islands lost telecommunications service for several hours yesterday when a fiber-optic cable was accidentally cut in West Oahu.

An undetermined number of Wavecom customers in West Oahu and on the Big Island, Maui and Lanai lost high-speed Internet, long-distance and enhanced data services when another company accidentally cut a Wavecom cable in a shared manhole yesterday morning, a Wavecom spokesman said. Service was restored by 2:50 p.m.

The cut was not related to a severed deep-sea cable off of Maui on Tuesday that knocked out service to Oceanic Time Warner customers, Wavecom officials said.

Wavecom, formerly known as Pacific LightNet, primarily serves business customers but has some residential accounts, the spokesman said.

Maui Land finalizes $40M stock sale

Maui Land & Pineapple said yesterday it has completed its sale of $40 million worth of common stock to existing shareholders. The company said it sold 10.3 million shares at $3.85 per share. The net proceeds will be used to repurchase all of the company’s outstanding senior secured convertible notes.

Small-biz agency to launch new site

The Small Business Administration says it plans to launch a redesigned website this fall.

The new site, sba.gov, will make it easier for small businesses, lending institutions, small-business counselors and other members of the small-business community to more quickly find the information they need, the federal agency said in a news release. New features will allow users to tailor their experience to provide information that is specific to their needs and location.
